In The Event of A Personal Claim

Home Incidents

  • Safety is the primary concern. Once you and your family are out of harm’s way and emergency personnel has been notified, contact your agent or carrier.
  • If possible, try to protect your property from further damage.
  • Do not dispose of any damaged property.
  • Document your damages with photos and video. Create an itemized list.
  • In the event of water damage, attempt to shut off water source immediately to prevent further damage.
  • If an event occurs during business hours, contact your SCM agent. If after business hours, call SCM at (800) 427-3253 or call your insurance carrier at the number provided with your policy or ID card.

Auto Accidents

  • Do not leave the scene of the accident.
  • Notify the police immediately - it is best to have an official record of the accident.
  • Take photos, when possible.

Obtain information about the other parties involved, such as:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Telephone numbers (work, cell, home)
  • Insurance Carrier
  • Insurance Policy Number
  • Insurance agent (if there is one)
  • Year, Make, Model of car
  • License plate number and state
  • Vehicle ID number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Car owner’s name and address, if different from driver
