Q. Why do insurers ask so many questions before they offer a quotation?

A. In order to determine whether a risk is one that is compatible with the underwriting criteria, it is necessary for an underwriter to have a complete picture of all aspects of the risk. Once the decision is made that a risk is acceptable, additional details are used to price the insurance program by crediting based upon positive attributes, or debiting on negative aspects.
